Alaskan Malamutes require a long-term commitment
to obedience, activity, exercise and entertainment...
their unique character, intelligence and
energy level can frustrate you, will undoubtedly
entertain you, and can bring you joy (when
they're happy) or grief (when they're
not). They absolutely need a securely fenced
yard! Alaskan Malamutes will roam due to
their hunting instincts. Malamutes are commonly
known to injure or kill other small pets,
such as cats, birds, rabbits, mice, rats,
etc., simply due to their strong natural
hunting instinct. Raising a puppy with a
cat does not guarantee the cat's life-long
safety! Alaskan Malamutes can be very destructive
if left unattended. They are not recommended
as apartment dogs. They need room to run;
leash walking does not satisfy their energy.
If this type of relationship does not appeal
to you, then consider another breed. If it
does then explore the idea of local rescues
as well , talk to local rescue organizations.
There is no such thing as " GIANT MALAMUTES
", these are malamutes that are only
bred for one reason , for an oversized big
malamute and usually always come with a lot
of painful big hip health problems. AKC standard - There is a natural range in size in the
Alaskan Malamute. The desirable freighting
sizes are males, 25 inches at the shoulders,
85 pounds; females, 23 inches at the shoulders,
75 pounds. Woolies and long coated malamutes
are incorrect coat gene, although they make
fine family pets they should not be used
for breeding purposes. |
